It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
