🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment have a special treat prepared for Apex Legends gamers, arriving just in time for festive season. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid movement will be pleased to learn that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when Season 27: Amped launches on Nov. 4. Introducing Mantle Boosting Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this ability gives players a surge of propulsion when scaling obstacles. As explained lead battle royale designer the design lead, this technique was previously existed of Apex Legends for some time, usually referred to as "mantle jumping." However it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in competitive play or esports competitions. This season, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to execute these tricky movement boosts. "This technique have been in the game for some time, but the movement isn't easy to pull off and a player would never know it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese states. "Now including a visual cue so players can clearly identify the timing to activate the fast-paced traversal skill, opening up the feature and introducing fresh strategies to play for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Make It Accessible Why make a once niche movement quirk available to all players? Lead Legend designer the development lead explains the team aims for gamers to feel powerful — including ones who are inexperienced. "Our community is doing other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we looked around at other games, looked at what our players execute, and we wondered, 'What if we provide these capabilities to a broader audience?'" Mohan explains. "Since currently, certain advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to use — it requires to remap your keybinds and hit precise timings. So we said, 'How about we create a polished version?'" The Amped Update Movement Focus Movement is largely the central theme in Season 27, with Legends Horizon, Rampart, and Valkyrie receiving enhancements to maintain them mobile. The cooldown period on her tactical ability has been decreased, and this skill will propel users into the air faster than it used to. Rampart's Amped Cover now include overhead protection and capability to grant movement bonuses to allies in range. However it's aerial Valkyrie who's getting the most attention now, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as stronger, quicker, and more lethal. "I think there's quite a consensus that her moment is here," says Legend designer the designer. "There's no doubt that she's been dominant in the past, but with the introduction of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's the game. It was a really great opportunity for the team to reexamine a bunch of aspects in her abilities and essentially bring her back to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To restore her competitive status in current strategies, Holstead notes Respawn evaluated each of her abilities and introduced significant changes. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting velocity while airborne, and this equipment regenerates three times faster, allowing her to remain longer aloft. She can no longer be harmed from her ultimate ability, which was enhanced to mark enemies who take damage from it. Her Skyward Dive ability — which lifts teammates skyward for repositioning or escape — now takes much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains some new perk choices that players can choose to conserve resources, widen the area of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," Holstead comments. Olympus Improvements Additionally, the lone airborne map, Olympus, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that opens up bottlenecks and renders claiming the high ground more manageable. Respawn says the game Season 27 is all about providing gamers the resources required to keep up with matches. "Really, we were looking at Apex's fundamental nature as a fast-paced FPS," says principal designer the lead. Apex Legends Season 27: Amped launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
